Sanitizing Carpet (Properly)

Although everyone would like a home that is clean and healthy, many people overlook the fact that carpets are one of the most common sources of bacteria and dirt. Even though regular vacuuming can reduce dirt and other substances which could cause allergic reactions, it doesn't clean carpets to the point that they kill germs. Carpet sanitizing can be the only way to get rid of bacteria.

We all take off our clothes each day and place them in the washer. This is not to remove bacteria but to keep them clean. It is simple enough to clean clothes--just wash them in the machine. However, carpets cannot be simply rolled up and put in the washing machine. Your carpets will start to smell musty and build up bacteria. You may not notice it, as it will gradually grow over time. But carpets harbor germs.

It is possible to get rid of these bacteria by having your carpets professionally cleaned by someone who has the necessary equipment. Then they will clean and deodorize your carpets, leaving them fresh and clean. But it is important to know what causes bacteria to grow in carpets.

You can let bacteria grow quickly by providing them with moisture. Most of us have, at some point, encountered damp clothing or clothing that had been left for a long time. This is commonly called "moldy." Because mold is a bacteria, carpets should not be dried on the dryer or washed on the line.

Carpets that are left wet should be cleaned and deodorized. Sometimes, moisture is not visible on the surface. However, carpets often have a backing that absorbs water. Industrial dehumidifiers and fans are the best to get rid of moisture in carpet backing.

However, sanitizing carpets is the best way for bacteria to be eliminated. Make sure that the carpet is not left untreated. You can end up with carpets that are soggy.
